ABOUT The grange playhouse

The Grange Playhouse is the home of the Grange Players, a non-profit-making organisation registered as a charity.
​Since our formation in 1951 it has been the company’s aim to encourage the local community’s interest in drama and the theatre through productions that have entertained and stimulated our audiences.

The Playhouse is a place which has been at the heart of Walsall for many years and has included generations of the same family on stage and being involved in the theatre.

​We also feel that we fulfil a social function both for our members and those audience members who come to see our performances.

For several years, the Grange Playhouse has also been the principal venue of the Fellowship Players who hire the theatre to present several plays each season.

The Grange Players is an award winning amateur dramatic theatre company. We have productions in September, November, January, March and May. We perform from our own theatre ‘The Grange Playhouse’. The theatre seats 104 and each production runs for 9 nights (Not Sundays), we perform 6 productions throughout the year. Curtain up is 7.45pm.

We welcome new interested members from age 16 years upwards, to learn theatre skills. Annually we hold several social events, play readings, front of house training, wardrobe, sound, lighting, stage make up, back stage work, props, speech training, acting, directing, set building and painting, in fact just about every aspect of theatre performance. As you may be aware The Grange Playhouse was suddenly closed for essential maintenance in August 2017. Unfortunately, having conducted a risk assessment we were told of some severe issues. There was essential work required and we had to ensure that the this was done prior to reopening our theatre to the public. This cost The Grange Players Ltd a significant amount of money and we had to rely on fundraising and donations from our members and patrons to help with the huge cost of more than £60,000 to open our beloved theatre again.

​We would like to take this opportunity to us thank our friends The Fellowship Players for their support through this difficult year and of course to all our generous patrons and members. Not only for monetary contributions but also for the assisting with our working parties which helped save an enormous amount of money by doing a lot of the work ourselves.

We are not out of the woods yet as we still have a few important jobs to complete including further works on our auditorium. We are currently in consultation with Walsall Council to see if we may be able to secure some funding for further improvements including the lighting on the car park, and improving accessibility.

We will also be holding many more fundraising events which we hope you will come along and support us with. These will be advertised on our website and our social media platforms. You can also donate via the same channels you have been doing for the past year. We really can’t thank you enough for your support and we are looking forward to bringing you more of our award wining plays in our 2023-2024 season.
